Digital inkjet ink common sense, how much do you know?


What is digital inkjet ink? What are the main components of it?

Digital ink is a special coloured colloid. Its function is to record patterns on the bottom of paper or light box cloth. The three main components of ink include coloring agents (pigments), crosslinking agents (resins) and solvents. An ink mixture consisting of a solvent is printed on the base material. With the evaporation of the solvent, the crosslinking agent combines the colorant (pigment) with the substrate to form a pattern.

The type of digital ink is divided according to the ink property.

One, according to the ink base to divide:

1 water based type

According to its characteristics, it is mainly divided into solution type ink, diffusion type ink and microemulsion type ink.

2 non water based type

According to its characteristics, it is mainly divided into oil based ink and solvent based ink (weak solvent type ink).

3 phase change type

According to its characteristics, it can be divided into two types: liquid to colloid and liquid to solid.

4 reactivity type

According to its characteristics, it is mainly UV curing type, and it does not contain volatile solvents. After curing, the light resistance and waterproof are very good. It can be printed on glass, tile, rubber and other articles. But before curing, some of its monomers are likely to cause allergic reactions in some people.

Two, according to the colorant to divide:

1 dye ink

Dye ink is a completely dissolving ink of molecular level. This ink is a complete compound solution. The probability of plugging the ink head is small. It is easily absorbed by materials, colorful and cost low after painting.

Disadvantages: its waterproofing is weak, and because dye molecules decompose quickly under ultraviolet irradiation, it is suitable for indoor use.

Advantages: brightly coloured, layered, and lower price than pigment ink. Therefore, it is the first choice for printing pictures and making color inkjet cards.

2 pigment ink

It is the grinding of solid pigment into very small particles, suspended in a special water solvent, a suspension solution or a half solution, which is the same as the pigments that are printed and dyed. It is the opposite of the principle that the dye ink penetrated into the medium to form the color. It is colored by the surface of the color material, which is attached to the medium, such as the copy paper or the print paper, etc.

Advantages: pigment itself is waterproof and is not easily decomposed by ultraviolet radiation. Strong water resistance and light resistance. So it is suitable for outdoor use.

 Shortcoming: most pigment ink will make the surface residual, so it can't print glossy images even on flat surface paper. In addition, the manufacturing cost of pigment ink is higher.

The type of digital ink is divided according to the environmental grade.
