How to choose compatible sublimation paper for your business

We encountered many customers, they know a little of sublimation paper. When we ask their detailed information, they are confused about it, like specific gram weight, width, tacky or fast dry, roll or sheet. It is really hard for outsiders to make it clear. So this article will tell you some important information about how to choose right paper for your business.

Sublimation paper is a special intermediary in sublimation technology which makes the solid dye turn into vapors without becoming liquid and hence helps it infuse on the substrate of transferring materials at the molecular level by high temperature and high press. Sublimation paper is used to carry the inks, but it is different from usual paper. Sublimation paper is a specially- made paper which has three layers; the top layer is the functional coating layer for absorbing the ink and separating the dye stuff; the middle layer is the base paper; the bottom layer is the anti-warp coating.
These three layers with reasonable structure make the printing picture technicolor on the sublimation paper. This also affects its result printout on the transferred materials. Otherwise this paper cannot show its good effect and cause some trouble for the user like wrinkle, ink absorption problem.

The common size of sublimation paper are:24”,36”,44”,63”64”72”74”94”etc. The gram of sublimation paper means the weight of per square meter, common gram includes 45gsm, 50gsm, 55gsm, 60gsm, 70gsm, 75gsm,80gsm which are low weight sublimation paper; and 90gsm, 100gsm, 120gsm which are heavy weight sublimation paper. The different gram weight of paper decides the amount of ink-loading.

Ink loading is related with the water absorption by the paper. The heavier paper with higher ink loading shows high quality in printing. Usually, the less colorful printing image is suggested to use low weight sublimation paper to make transfer printing. But if the image you print is complete and colorful, the amount of ink loading should be high, and you’d better choose the heavy weight sublimation paper. Besides, the low weight sublimation paper is suitable for high speed printers, because it can avoid the crimping of the paper. And if you use low weight sublimation paper for ordinary printers, the ink will easily permeate the paper. Besides, high speed print isn’t usually for superior quality, while use the low weight paper can save the cost.

When choosing any type of sublimation paper, you need to ensure you are purchasing the right size. The size depends on the type and size of the printer you have. For example, The print width of Epson F6200 reaches to 44”，you cannot choose the size over it. Sometimes you need to cut the paper after inkjet-printing because the picture you need to transfer–print is not compatible with your heat press machine.

When it comes to tacky or fast dry sublimation paper,Tacky sublimation paper is used widely for elastic fabric, like lycra and spandex for sportswear; If you want to work quickly and accurately without worrying about crimping, tacky sublimation paper may be right for you. Fast dry sublimation paper is widely used for terylene clothing in textiles, the superior advantage is that it is easy to dry and not time-waste for waiting. Except from textiles and apparel, sublimation paper can be used in ceramics, plates,mugs,glasses,metal,crystal,leather and so on.
